Braincave ("we", "us", "our") operates the braincave.co website and application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. We take your privacy seriously. Your thoughts are yours, and we intend to keep it that way.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: email address and name when you sign up
  • Captures: text, voice recordings, images, and forwarded emails you choose to send to Braincave
  • Usage data: how you interact with the app (anonymised analytics)
  • Device information: browser type, operating system (for compatibility)

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and operate your personal second brain
  • To classify, tag, and organise your captures using AI
  • To generate digests, nudges, and search results personalised to your data
  • To communicate with you about your account and service updates
  • To improve the service (using anonymised, aggregated data only)

4. AI Processing

Your captures are processed by AI to classify, tag, and extract relevant information. This processing is done solely to power your personal Braincave experience.

We never use your data to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI models. Your data is processed, not learned from.

5. Data Storage and Security

  • Your data is stored securely in an encrypted cloud database with encryption at rest
  • All connections use HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit
  • API keys and secrets are stored in a secrets manager, never in code
  • Strict tenant separation ensures no user can access another user's data
  • Row Level Security (RLS) enforced at the database level

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under GDPR (EU), UK Data Protection Act, Australian Privacy Act, or similar legislation. These include:

  • Right to access your personal data
  • Right to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to delete your data (account deletion is permanent and irreversible)
  • Right to data portability (planned for post-launch)
  • Right to restrict or object to processing

7. Cookies

Braincave uses essential cookies only, for authentication and session management. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics that identify you.

8. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate Braincave, including providers for:

  • AI processing of your captures
  • Database, authentication, and file storage
  • Application hosting
  • DNS, CDN, and security

Each provider has their own privacy policy. We select providers who meet our security standards and can provide details of specific providers upon request.

9. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all data is permanently deleted. Captures, classifications, tags, activity logs, images, voice recordings, and your forwarding email address. There is no recovery after deletion.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of Braincave after changes constitutes acceptance.
